HIV Prevention 2019. What Every Clinicians Must Know. While there has been significant progress in the prevention of new HIV infections, transmission of HIV continues. Clearly, more needs to be done to reduce the rate of new infections through such approaches as increased HIV testing, behavioral interventions and the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). However, many clinicians are not fully equipped to guide their patients through the complex issues associated with HIV prevention. This situation results in patients not receiving optimal preventative care as described in national guidelines and to an increased number of people becoming infected with HIV who might otherwise not be infected. This educational program has been designed to address these challenges. This program will include case studies to educate clinicians who work with various patient populations - especially high-risk patients - about the theoretical framework, latest findings, and ongoing research in this field, and to review the professional guidelines in this area. In addition, this program will educate clinicians with strategies to provide improved prevention services to patients, which is expected to help reduce the number of new HIV infections

Improving the Care of HIV-positive Patients in 2018: The treatment of patients with HIV infection is a complex process that includes testing, diagnosis, linkage to care, individualized antiretroviral therapy (ART), and the management of co-morbidities (especially hepatitis C co-infection) and other issues. Decisions about the clinical management of HIV patients often require that clinicians understand a wide range of clinical trial data and treatment information if they are to provide the care that is best suited for each patient. This is especially true of ART and includes critically important issues regarding when to start, which antiretrovirals (ARVs) to use and when to switch.
This two-part medical education program includes a combination of online teaching modules and Q&A sessions with nationally recognized HIV specialists. As a result of participating in this program, physicians and other health care providers will gain a greater understanding of how to provide optimal therapy for patients with HIV infection, thereby increasing the number of patients receiving individualized, optimal ARV therapy, while reducing morbidity and mortality and improving patient outcomes.
The first part of the program includes a choice of three online modules that address: 1) regimen selection for the treatment-naïve patient; 2) regimen selection for the treatment-experienced patient; and 3) prevention and management of common co-morbidities in the HIV- infected patient. Once a module is completed and CME credit has been awarded, the participant will then be offered an opportunity to participate in a Q&A session via text, email or teleconference, scheduled with one of a panel of HIV faculty for a more in-depth discussion of the module topics.
HCV Therapy in 2018: Agreement and Controversy. Despite significant advances in the treatment of people with HCV infection, professional practice gaps remain that contribute to continued morbidity and mortality. While clinical trials provide an evidence base regarding which direct acting antivirals (DAAs) are most likely to be effective for treating various patients, many HCV clinicians have not integrated them into their clinical practice. To address this problem, we have developed a case-based CME program that explores and analyzes current HCV treatment standards of care, including when to start treatment, re-treatment, HCV/HBV co-infection, HCV and HCC complications, decompensated cirrhosis and acute HCV. Participants in this program will gain knowledge and skills that should lead to improved patient care.
Selecting ARV Therapy in 2018: What Is the Standard of Care? This is a four-part CME video program. Despite significant advances in the treatment of people with HIV infection, professional practice gaps remain that contribute to continued morbidity and mortality. While clinical trials provide an evidence base regarding which ARV drugs and regimens are most likely to be effective for treating various patients, many HIV clinicians have not integrated them into their clinical practice. To address this problem, we have developed a case-based CME program that explores and analyzes current HIV treatment standards of care, including when to start, what to start in ARV-naive patients, and when to switch ARVs in virologically suppressed patients for the purpose of eliminating or avoiding toxicity, improving long-term patient health, or simplifying a regimen. Participants in this program will gain knowledge and skills that should lead to improved patient care.
