Social determinants of health (SDOH), such as locale, race, age, education, literacy, and income can have a significant impact on the prevention of cancer and a patient’s experience and outcomes during treatment. SDOH has been shown to influence cancer screening rates, mortality rates, differences in diagnosis and treatment for various populations and can lead to psychological distress in both the patients and caregivers. This program will provide the knowledge and skills for health care professionals to recognize SDOH barriers to prevention and treatment of cancer which will increase the quality of care provided to cancer patients.
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of case managers, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physicians, psychologists, social workers, dietitians, and other health care professionals who are interested in learning about the impact of social determinants of health in cancer care.
